CARRIE KEY: I always knew that Grace was talented in writing and her little phrases, little things she’d say like,
GRACE KEY: Blah blah blah. “The go with the flow” or “Hey love bug”, these little phrases, GRACE KEY: Don’t be Dramanatic
CARRIE KEY: Don’t be Dramanatic, yeah that’s what her favourite one right now is, “Don’t be”, yeah. CARRIE KEY: Grace is very loving, funny, stubborn. GRACE KEY: No, not stubborn. CARRIE KEY: No she doesn’t realise that she is funny but she is.
GRACE KEY: No. CARRIE KEY: Grace first started doing makeup, a lot, because she loves makeup tutorials and she would watch them like, obsessively and the next thing I know, she is videoing herself putting her makeup on. CARRIE KEY: So it first started with just wanting to be fancy and, GRACE KEY: Famous. CARRIE KEY: And dress up and wear heels and do makeup. When we’re taking pictures she’s always posing and now people are asking her you know, to model. COMM: Grace Key was born with Down’s syndrome but this 20 year old has already started her own business creating unique and inspirational t-shirts and designs. CARRIE KEY: She loves to strike a pose and GRACE KEY: I don’t. Don’t ruin it. PRESLEY NANCE: She’s got the sass to her that is perfect, just comes out naturally. We love to do makeup, I’ve done Grace’s makeup since she was little. CARRIE KEY: When you see her paintings, you’ll notice several like, “Go with the flow”, “Hey love bug”, “Be fancy, be famous”, it’s all things that Grace says all the time. GRACE KEY: Don’t be dramanatic. CARRIE KEY: And yeah, “Don’t be dramanatic”, that’s her word. COMM: Grace’s mum noticed something special in her daughters art and decided to get creative and share her daughters designs with the world. CARRIE KEY: Over the last couple of years she went through a time of a little bit of a struggle with people not. completely accepting her, she’s going to pull the positive from the negative *Laughter* CARRIE KEY: What’s the first design you did Grace? GRACE KEY: “I made lemonade”. CARRIE KEY: Yeah, this is, “I made lemonade”, so hold it up Grace. “I made lemonade”, I guess most people can figure out the significance of that you know, lemons get thrown and you make lemonade and that’s what Grace always does, and I’ll try to follow that. The first design was GRACE KEY: “Be the light”, shine your light. CARRIE KEY: Shine your light, hold it up so they can see, and Grace is wearing that one too. Ok i got it. CARRIE KEY: Candidly kind is her business, it is a way for her to spread her light through her art and her little phrases that she’s always said and she, that she’s continued to like, make new phrases up. Grace’s most recent product and she’s so excited about these. GRACE KEY: About the red caps. CARRIE KEY: So, I thought, ok, what couldn’t Grace do to incorporate these things that she’s so good at and use them as a career, a way to give back. COMM: Money from the sale of Grace’s t-shirts have been donated to charities helping others with disabilities. CARRIE KEY: It’s not about the money, it’s about giving back and awareness that’s just meant to be. I get emotional when I start thinking about it, can you tell? *Laughs* CAROLINE CLARK: Her design work, I think it’s great. She comes out with great sayings. Her modeling, she’s so pretty I think she can do any kind of modeling. CARRIE KEY: The reaction to Grace’s business has been, CARRIE KEY: Let me think about it. GRACE KEY: Say it. *Laughs* CARRIE KEY: Just very humbling. CARRIE KEY: There’s so many things about people with Down’s syndrome that is a misconception to a lot of people. CARRIE KEY: They’re just like you and they’re just like me, they want, GRACE KEY: Boyfriend, girlfriend. CARRIE KEY: Yes, they do, they want everything just like anyone else would. CARRIE KEY: I’m most proud of Grace for her chillness I guess. GRACE KEY: Oh well! CARRIE KEY: Her authenticity. CARRIE KEY: And her, GRACE KEY: Laugh. CARRIE KEY: Yeah, I’m proud of your laugh.
