So, I think there are a couple of really interesting trends in collaboration and innovation right now. The first is of course social, and I say that as if this is a new feature – – but in reality this is a trend which has been evolving over the last decade. Social collaboration in enterprises is about bringing people together through technology – – to advance particular projects, team thinking, products and so on. But I’m seeing renewed focus in social collaboration with tools like Yammer, Chatter and Microsoft Teams – – to help people bring together knowledge, content, people in order to innovate inside an organisation. And this is a really interesting zone, because although the technology is not new – – companies are really trying to squeeze these tools and make them work for their organisations. So, ‘m seeing renewed focus on how we actually drive long term adoption – – how we can seed organisations and communities to use these tools to ultimately bring about – – what it is their business needs to bring about. And that’s a really interesting area for me too, because – – for a very long while, collaboration has almost been for the purpose of collaboration. If you’d ask a CEO: “Is collaboration important?”, “absolutely!” – none of them would say “no, not for us”. Collaboration is not something of interest. So, what I’m now finding is a renewed interest in collaboration for a particular purpose – – to give those communities and that technology – – some focus into delivering whatever it is that that business delivers. You manufacture widgets? Make it focused on widgets. If it’s soft drinks, make it focused on soft drinks. So, I’m seeing a renewed focus there which I think is fascinating. And if I could pick up on my second theme for collaboration and innovation right now – – it’s around the area of employee engagement – This is a really interesting zone which brings together digital thinking – – physical architecture thinking around buildings, and cultural thinking – And this collaboration means that the digital workplace folks have a great opportunity and reason to – – work with HR people, with facility management and to bring about a cohesive employee experience – So, there’s a new layer of collaboration which is outside of social collaboration – – and collaboration technologies – – but involves digital workplace folks getting together and working together in a new way.
