The designer Hubert de Givenchy, one of the
great names of French fashion, has died at the age of 91. One of his best known creations was the famous
“little black dress” worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Givenchy came from an aristocratic family
and worked alongside the then unknown Pierre Balmain and Christian Dior after World War
II. He was employed by the designer Elsa Schiaparelli
before leaving to found his own fashion house in 1952.
