(music) Junior year I moved to the school partially because I really wanted to pursue something in the fashion industry but I wasn’t sure what. I’m looking at fashion journalism as my big want but I’m open to really anything that comes my way. You know they don’t need to go to college to find out, no this isn’t what I want to do. They can find out now in high school that yeah I dabbled into it, I dabbled into my interests and some of them flourish and they’re like yes it’s what I want to do. Some of them say oh I just like this as a hobby and that’s okay too. Now they can really focus on what they really want to do for the future. Um, even though I’m not majoring in fashion i’m actually going to make the computer science it’s something that’s always been kind of like a hobby of mine, something that I’ve always really been interested in. For the Fashion Careers 1, we’re finishing up on our illustration unit right now and then we’re going to go into an in-depth study about fabrication and different types of fibers and fabrics. For the Fashion 2, they are working on pattern-making for their fashion show. All of them are designing five looks head-to-toe looks so it can be consisting of five to 15 pieces. I think that if you have any interest in the fashion industry this is a great class to take because it it shows you the reality of it as opposed to what you see on TV and I think that if you can make it through that and can make it to this class I really think you can make it in the industry. As a class we collaborate with our pro-photo class, our video production class. We do a lot of collaboration as-is in the Academy and for our fashion show at the end of the year you know we have so much that goes into it and my students take care of it. So it’s very business-oriented and they get hands-on skills. It’s not just theoretical. We actually put everything into practice. I basically grade on growth. You came in here with this talent. Are you leaving with this? I think that it broadens your horizons and especially if you’re not going into a career where of core subject is applicable taking these non-traditional classes kind of gives you a better insight into different paths and you might discover something that you love. From this class I’ve really learned just how to work with others because fashion is such an interconnected industry and I really learned how to work and bounce ideas off of each other and learn and listen to other people and that absolutely translates into the real world where you always have to work with people. I’ve learned a lot about time management and meeting deadlines and I’ve also learned that hard work pays off. I think that if you believe that you can do something and you really push yourself the outcome will be amazing.
